Acoustic – Good Anywhere
Today’s world asks for robust and sustainable potato varieties. Therefore, Meijer Potato introduces a new robust generation of varieties. In particular, the demand is rising for the promising table variety Acoustic:
- It is adaptive to climate & soil, producing a high marketable yield.
- Being late blight resistant, it’s suitable for both conventional and organic cultivation. Needing less pesticides and nitrogen, this variety can be grown with respect for nature.
Acoustic produces delicious, round oval and light-yellow skinned tubers, uniform in size with a nice skin finish. It’s a firm cooking, storage type potato with medium maturity, that’s well-suited to boiling and baking.
Late Blight Resistance
Growing season 2021 had a high late blight pressure, but Acoustic has proven its resilience under these conditions. The photo below shows the reference variety with a lot of late blight spots, while Acoustic has none.
At Least 25% less Nitrogen Needed
Acoustic meets the Green Deal requirements for late blight resistance as well as for fertilizer input. This variety needs at least 25% less nitrogen than a standard variety. It is recommended to give all nitrogen at the base for a good ripening of the crop. Acoustic does not develop large foliage, but does have an early tuber set. An additional N-gift for extra foliage is not necessary and would cause the crop to run late.
Acoustic in Various Regions
Below is an impression of Acoustic during the 2021 growing season in various regions. In Europe the average yield was 50-55 tons/ha for conventional and organic. For both growing methods, Acoustic resisted the high foliar blight pressure quite well this growing season.
