Lady Jade development

The introduction of LADY JANE started three years ago with a focus on certain countries. Since then it has been spread further afield, with increasing market opportunities. LADY JANE has shown its potential to be a real multipurpose variety, with excellent qualities for  fresh, frozen and home French fries, as well as crisps, table and mashed.

Frozen French fries market

This is the first main market for which we started the introduction of the variety. Processing wise, LADY JANE offers a very nice texture and taste as well as a good frying color throughout storage. Its length allows flexibility regarding the frozen product market segments.  Its high under water weight combined with the even dry matter distribution within the tuber makes this variety very efficient through the processing line.

Fresh French fries – Fish and Chips

In the UK, LADY JANE is making a great impression in the Fish and Chips shops. The bold tubers are easy to peel, the yellow flesh and premium taste and texture delight the shop owners as well as their customers. Pre-prepared bag tests with successful results allow flexibility for LADY JANE to evolve as Fish and Chip shop owners increasingly look at pre-prep options.

Table market

During LADY JANE’S development in Belgium and France, we increasingly hear the sentence : “this is the new real multipurpose”. Indeed, thanks to its taste and texture, LADY JANE is starting to be registered in supermarkets within the multipurpose segment. Consumers can also cook it for a mashed potato dish or oven roasted potato. With this variety, skin is not the most shiny one but taste is king.

Crisps

With its high dry matter content (average 23%  in the Netherlands) and its good crisping color, LADY JANE can be used by the processors who already have experience with longer shaped potato varieties. This higher yielding variety opens new opportunities for crisping factories, as well as dual purpose cropping for the grower.
