High value potato varieties
Access to food is not self-evident in all areas of the world. We face challenges in the availability of land and water, in climate and regulations, while the global demand for potatoes grows as a primary good and as a comfort food.
Our potato varieties allow us to respond to the changes in the potato value chain. We talk and listen to many different players in the chain and translate this into a clear vision for the future. As the development and market acceptance of potato varieties takes a long time, some 8-12 years depending on the market, it is important to make a distinction between trends and hypes. Hypes usually weaken or disappear within a few years. Meijer Potato makes an assessment of what will be important in ten years’ time throughout the potato value chain. It is on the basis of this vision that we determine how best we can respond as a company.
“The development of a new potato variety takes an average of 8 to 12 years. Together with partners in the chain, we aim to shorten this period”.
