Storage Crop 2020
2020 Has been another good year for crisping variety Lady Alicia. Based on our experience and that of our customers, Lady Alicia has proven to be storable, provided that the long-term storage is taken into account during cultivation. Applying sprout suppressants has given good results. The table below shows some storage data from France, the UK and the Netherlands.
Frying Tests
The photos below show that texture and frying colour look good in frying tests done in France, the Netherlands and the UK.
Lady Alicia Around the World
The map below shows to which countries Lady Alicia was delivered and where it is being cultivated in 2021. This variety produces a high marketable yield and good frying colour in various climates.
Feedback Season 2021
First feedback of the 2021 season is positive:
- The photo on the right shows Lady Alicia in the German Pfalz region planted end of March, where it has a good yield, dry matter and size potential for early processing.
- Feedback from the UK is that Lady Alicia is flexible to use as it can be processed directly from the field and out of long storage.
Growing & Storage Advice
Tips & tricks to manage a crisping variety such as Lady Alicia well and maximize the potential for good frying quality from August until June:
- Apply all of the N gift at planting, do not split.
- Make sure the crop reaches good maturity.
- Start sprout control on time and use MH at 35 mm tuber size.
- Target 8ºC in storage, not colder than 7ºC.
- Monitor CO2 levels in storage to be max. 2500 ppm for more than 24 hrs.
- Always use a storage that allows fresh air.
